St. Mark's School

I began my career as a St. Mark Eagle by substituting in nearly every room in the building from 2002-2005. I then began teaching 8^th grade English in 2006, and even spent part of my day in 1^st grade as a part time para for a year.  I added Yearbook duties and Computer Apps/Technology for 5^th, 6^th, 7^th, and 8^th grade in 2009, and just recently moved to 5^th grade. I am excited for the change of pace and eager to share my love for grammar & writing with 5^th graders. Although new to the math gig, I have always considered myself a numbers geek and look forward to teaching 5^th grade math this year too. Bringing my experience with technology will allow us to create some pretty amazing things while learning in 5^th grade!

Prior to teaching at St. Mark’s, I spent a lot of years teaching at a wide variety of levels. I’ve gained invaluable experience while serving as a 6^th grade teacher in Kansas City, a graduate teaching assistant and student teacher supervisor at KU, a seminar instructor and education coop supervisor at WSU, and an adjunct English teacher at Newman University. I also did some of my best work as a domestic engineer and CEO of the Brittain Household, Inc.

My family keeps me hopping, keeps me grounded and blesses me abundantly! My husband, Brent, is my “post high school sweetheart” of 30+ years. We are proud to have survived parenting five children, one fat old country dog, and a one-eared cat. All our children are proud graduates of St. Mark School and found that the solid education and strong habits learned in this building served them well in high school and beyond. Newest additions to our family include two beautiful daughters-in law (two weddings in 2018) and our first grandbaby (2019). 

Besides teaching at St. Mark’s, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, riding my bike “Sally” along the Arkansas River, playing pickleball, READING (I am in two bookclubs), and playing every kind of board game or cards possible! If you ever come across a great bike trail, a good book, or a new game hit me up! I love to learn and grow along with my students!
