Middle School Science
I am a product of Renwick USD 267. I attended Colwich Grade School and then Andale High School where I graduated with the class of 1997. After that I cheered at Coffeyville Community College and earned my Associates degree in 1999. Manhattan became home after that as I attended Kansas State University. In 2002 I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. I am also a proud Shocker alumni. In 2006 I completed work for my masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction.
I have taught my entire 17 year career at St. Mark's School. All of them have been spent teaching science to middle schoolers.
This is my 16th year of teaching middle schoolers science at St. Mark's and I have loved the journey. I am married to my best friend, Tyler who teaches 7th grade computers at at Derby Middle School. He also coaches football and basketball. Four years ago we adopted our son, Will and that's where the real adventure began! He is an enthusiastic boy and there is rarely a dull moment when he is around. Two years ago we added to our family by adopting a baby girl. Nora is her name and she has added such joy to our lives.
I love cooking for several reasons. It fills a fundamental need in people. We all need to eat but when we eat with other people a bond it created. When I can feed people healthy food and bring them closer together in the process, I feel fulfilled. Favorite ingredients: chocolate, garlic, eggs, pasta, tomatoes. Favorite Chefs and Cooks: Giada DeLaurentis, Ellie Krieger, Lorraine Pascall, Tyler Florence, Ree Drummond
Being a mom, it's difficult to find time to read but I do enjoy it. Mostly I read books about cooking (imagine that), parenting, teaching, and religion. I also try to keep up with what my students are reading so we have topics to discuss outside of science. Favorite books: The Holy Bible, Seven by Jen Hatmaker, Inferno by Dan Brown, Divergent, Insurgent, Four all by Veronica Roth, Julie and Julia by Julie Powell, Bringing Up Boys by James Dobson
I also love to work out. I get up early and get my workout in before school so that I make sure to fit it into my schedule. I like to do Cross-Fit type workouts, cardio interval classes, as well as yoga.
